Often traumatic events can be linked to the onset of depression, but this does not mean they cause it. This is clear as we're all aware of people enduring the most horrible circumstances imaginable without becoming clinically depressed.

Depression relies how we explain things to ourselves. It's about how we respond and make sense of events. Specifically, it is our thoughts that manifest into physical symptoms as well as empowered all the negative neuron signals through our brain. I remember the day like it was yesterday.

Shortly after winning my Strongman Pro Card, I hosted a 4th of July pool party at my house.

While I was walking around with just my swim trunks on, one of my clients pulled me aside.

And what he told me absolutely floored me.

He told me that I wasn't in shape enough... to be teaching others how to get in shape.

He said that because I was so fat... I had lost ALL credibility as a personal trainer.

He told me that I needed to be a role model and lead by example.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was being lectured for being overweight... by a client that I was supposed to be helping to get in shape!

The weird thing is... I didn't get angry with him. I couldn't.

Instead, I just slumped my shoulders down and nodded my head "Yes"... totally agreeing with him.

This client put me... a 260-pound Professional Strongman... in my place.

And I'm glad he did, because it really lit a fire under me.

I just knew I had to get back into shape. I wanted to prove to my clients that I was... in fact... the "real deal".

But I also knew that the traditional way of dieting and doing a ton of cardio wasn't going to be fast enough.

And that it was up to me to get myself back on track.
A few days later... when I was back at my gym... I looked around at all my different clients. One was a bodybuilder who was very lean and very muscular. Another was a powerlifter that was insanely strong.
Over on the treadmill... I noticed one of my clients huffing and puffing while jogging on the treadmill... struggling to lose weight.
I thought to myself... "Why do we have to do one form of training to gain muscle and another kind of training to lose fat?
Why couldn't we just take the best from different methods of training ... and combine them to create a totally new training approach that would build muscle WHILE burning fat.
The more I thought about it... the more excited I became.
I quickly got on the phone and called my buddy, Mike Westerdal.

How I Discovered The Secrets

Mike and I went through hundreds of scientific journals and research papers on building muscle and losing fat.

We kept digging until we learned something we both never knew about... and it completely FLOORED us!

We discovered some scientific research on the concept of building a "Type III Super Muscle".

We learned that there was a way to scientifically manipulate muscle fibers to grow bigger.

You see... our muscles are made up of different types of muscle fibers: Type I and Type II.

The Type I fiber is known as a slow-twitch because it contracts slowly. Slow-twitch fibers also have a high resistance to fatigue.

Type II fibers are fast-twitch fibers and they have a quicker contraction time than type I fibers and a low resistance to fatigue.

Super Hybrid Muscle FiberWhat Mike and I didn't know at the time was that there was another type of muscle fiber.

It's known as Type III muscle fiber and what's so amazing about it is... it behaves like a cross between Type I and Type II muscle fibers.

It's stronger, more powerful, and more resistant to fatigue than the others.

The amazing thing about this Type III muscle fiber is that it has the capacity to grow larger and leaner... WHILE simultaneously burning fat!

This is muscle that has been reconfigured by adding mitochondrial density, which results in a bigger, stronger muscle with more endurance capacity... capable of sustaining strength for extended periods of time.

Mitochondria are your cells' powerhouses. They take in nutrients, break them down and create energy in the process.

The more mitochondria there are in the muscle cells, the greater the energy capacity, which fuels both strength and endurance.

We learned that resistance training... combined with intense, short bursts of cardio, was the single best way to increase this mitochondrial density.

So Mike and I took this research and started doing some workouts together. We experimented by combining strength training, bodybuilding and cardio to accomplish everything at once.

It's true. When you do cardio first thing in the morning, on a empty stomach, your body will burn lean muscle tissue for fuel.

As you do cardio on an empty stomach, your body is burning away lean muscle tissue for it's protein needs. And it will leave you smaller and weaker as a result.

Again, you're getting fed lies and total BS from the so-called experts.

Long, slow, low-intensity cardio is how most people do it and it's completely wrong. Long duration, low intensity cardio will break down lean muscle for your energy needs.

And that's definitely something that you don't want.

However... research shows that high intensity, short duration cardio burns fat more effectively... while reducing lean tissue breakdown.

The higher the intensity of the cardio... the greater the fat-loss. And more importantly, the less of a negative impact it has on muscle breakdown.

Look at the difference between sprinters and long distance runners. This difference in effect of long duration cardio has on physiques is very noticeable.

Sprinters are very lean and muscular. Long distance runners are lanky, frail, and have very little muscle.

Another HUGE mistake I see a ton of people make is they rip out a workout routine from one of the major muscle magazines.
