May 2010 - Tennessee is bombarded with double its record rainfall (from 170mm to 345 mm) damaging and destroying property, even as far as Nashville! Jun. 2010 - Arkansas is hit by at least 150mm of rain in a mere hours, raising the little Mississippi 23 feet - responsible for more deaths. Jul. 2010 - California wildfires destroy 16,460 acres of property (that's enough land for 32,920 homes)! Sep. 2010 - Vermillion 380 Platform explodes in the Gulf of Mexico, spilling more oil and driving prices higher! And the year isn't over yet! Almost every month there has been a major disaster.  Fortunately, I haven't been hit by much, or at least nothing major. Unfortunately, the odds say my number must be about up.  With all these serious disasters striking all over the country (and the world), I'm going to feel the effects, and soon.  Maybe even in ways I'd never imagined. Things like: Food shortages when gas prices make it too expensive to ship.  My backyard garden won't come close being enough for my family to live off of for more than 2 days! Civil uprising due to hyperinflation -US debt makes this more and more real every day. Oil shooting to $15/gallon (the scare from the BP spill could've easily done this without government funding). Government Coup caused by the massive instability in our current administration, after all every country has its limit. These very probable scenarios hit pretty close to home, and I'm not ashamed to tell you, I was embarrassed.  The real world was looking me straight in the face, and me, a grown man, had been pulling the covers over my head like a boy.
