I've seen the hap-hazard way in which some students prepare for their GCSE. That's why I decided to document my system, in the hope that I can help students, just like you, by making revision for your maths GCSE exam easier and quicker. Why did I combine the foundation and higher tiers in one package and how does it benefit you? Firstly, the foundation-tier ranges from grades C-G whereas the higher-tier ranges from grades A*-C. This means some of the questions towards the end of the foundation-tier paper (around 20%) will feature at the beginning of the higher-tier. If you want to secure your 'C' grade, there is no reason why you can't attempt the first few questions of a higher-tier paper. Moreover, if you do manage to master the foundation-tier, then there is no reason why you cannot give the higher-tier a go. Achieving 90% consistently in foundation papers means you are ready to tackle the higher-tier. So if you are one of these students who find the foundation-tier quite easy after a while, enter the higher-tier instead and aim for a grade, higher than C. On the other hand, if you are a higher-tier student, it is compulsory that you master the foundation-tier first. This is because the foundation tier concepts actually make up around 60% of the higher-tier syllabus. These days, too many students are being entered for the higher-tier when they haven't mastered the basics first. Without this solid foundation, it is virtually impossible to secure your target grade.
