Off Season Ski Program | Ski Exercises and Ski Training

"Do You Want to Be in the BEST Skiing Shape of Your Life -- In Only 6 Weeks Time?"

Attention Skiers: If you'd like to have more energy, increased stamina, and better balance and control when you ski next, you're about to discover...

ski exercise

  • The stretches and exercises that will enable you to effortlessly, longer, and without pain...
  • How to strengthen your entire body (upper, lower, and core) with an exciting and results-driven workout program...
  • In just 6 weeks time...
  • For very little investment and with little time required...

Dear Skier,

Do you love skiing, but wish you could spend hours on the slopes without experiencing the aching joints, throbbing muscles, and inability to walk the next day? Do you want to get in better ski shape so you can carve the powder a little faster and a little more efficiently?

Maybe you want to make it through a full ski week without pain. If that sounds like you, then you've found your secret weapon. Here's why...

On this page you'll find out...

  • Why cardio alone won't prepare you for the rigors of the slopes or improve your muscle recovery.
  • The importance of stretching and mobility exercises for your joints.
  • What your core muscles really do and why they should be an integral part of your fitness program.
  • How circuit training better prepares your body for skiing, rather than following the 'body-builder' style workout.

There is something special about finishing up a full day of skiing...and then being able to walk the next morning and do it all over again.

Getting into ski shape is easier than you might think. Following a proven fitness program will get you there. You'll see and feel the results before you even reach the mountain.

Sure, it's easy to go to the gym and walk or run on the treadmill, but isn't that what you did last time? And, didn't you still have those torturous pains after skiing for the first time in so long?

I'm here to reveal the secrets to ridding yourself of those sore muscles and aching joints.

Cardio is NOT the Same as Strength Training

"I don't have to lift weights, cardio works my legs enough."

That's an untruth I hear all too often.elliptical cross trainer

Cardiovascular exercise such as running or walking on a treadmill, biking, or using an elliptical trainer are all great for your heart, but they do very little in preparing your legs for the slopes.

With most forms of cardio (especially if you use the same machine all the time) you'll build up imbalances in the muscles that will inhibit your flexibility and mobility. That's not good, especially since those are some of the most important traits in preventing injury while skiing.

By using bodyweight exercises and resistance training through a full range of motion, you'll form stronger muscles that will provide better support for your joints -- especially your knees, hips, and lower back.

Weight training exercises like our variations of squats and lunges are what allow your muscles to cushion your landings off even the tiniest of ski jumps and especially on moguls. Running or jogging, with their limited range of motion, do little to strengthen the muscles for this type of activity.

Plus, our fitness program incorporates your heart rate training into the weight lifting portions of your workout!

Movement, Flexibility, and Mobility

The majority of ski injuries result from a lack of mobility around a joint.

mobility exercises

Let's think about the joints of the lower body.

  • The Ankle - should be fairly mobile and have good movement.
  • The Knee - should only move in flexion and extension (think kick out and kick back). If the knee moved like the ankle, we'd be in trouble.
  • The Hip - should be mobile just like the ankle.

If there are restrictions in movement at the ankle, the body is going to look to create that movement at the next closest joint -- the knee. Not good.

If there are restrictions in movement at the hip, the body AGAIN is going to look to create that movement at the next closest joint. In this case, it may be your lower back or your knee. Not good.

For a society of "professional sitters" (people stuck in office chairs at our cubicles or even sitting in the car in traffic all day) we do very little to fight the imbalances created by poor flexibility.

The "Off Season Ski Program" includes these very important stretches and exercises into your warm-up and cooldown, preparing you for the workout ahead and for your next ski trip.

What Core Exercise Really Means...No, Not Situps

It's cold and you're going to be wearing a ski jacket anyway -- no one is going to see your ABS!

strength training woman

Just kidding. But, it is important to understand what your core muscles really do. (IMPORTANT: - The exercises we include for this section alone will help you get flatter abs, even without the situps).

The core musculature is made up of muscles you 'can see' and muscles you 'can't see'. The most important ones are the ones you can't see.

They are the muscles that stabilize the spine and stabilize the hips. They give you your foundation.

The stronger these muscles are, the stronger the 'can see' muscles can be. Those include your lower back muscles, your obliques, and yes, the washboard abs.

But, remember, if those foundational muscles aren't strong, it'll be like trying to build a house in quicksand.

Getting the Most Out of Your Workout (i.e. - Using Your Time Wisely)

best dumbbell exercises

If you want to look a little bit leaner, healthier, and be able to move more efficiently whether you are skiing or not, it's time to step away from the typical 'bodybuilding' type fitness programs.

Sure, they are great for some people, but if you don't have a ton of time, miss a workout here and there, and just want results quickly, then circuit training will get you there.

Here's how...

  • Total Body Exercises - Integrated exercises using the upper and lower body at the same time with combinations of pushing, pulling, squatting, and twisting require a lot more muscle than bicep curls and triceps pressdowns. The more muscle you activiate, the better your results will be. (Did I mention the biceps and triceps are some pretty small muscles in comparison to the leg muscles? It'd take a lot of curling to get the changes and total body strength we want for skiing!)
  • Less Down Time - Have you ever seen someone do a set and then wait 3 minutes before doing the next round? Think about all of that wasted time. What more could you have done in that 3 minutes to help change your body and prepare yourself for the slopes? We'll show you.
  • Increased Calorie Burning - During and after exercise. With your total body exercises and your shortened rest periods, you'll be upping the intensity of your workouts and will be able to take advantage of some extra calorie burning.

What Successful Clients Have to Say

"My Legs Are Rock Solid"

"To be a successful skier, not only do your legs have to be strong and rock solid, but a good skier has really strong core muscles, and really good balance."

Luis V., Lawrence, MA

"Better Strength, Speed, and Balance"

"Training over the summer was very beneficial for my strength, speed, and balance and that really showed in both my skiing this winter."

Josh S., Redondo Beach, CA

"Ready for Competition"

"To hit a jump with an 80 foot table top, I need strong legs and a strong core to support myself when landing from 25 feet in the air.

After all the work I did this summer, I found myself being able to support myself landing every jump, which resulted in cleaner landings, which score better with the judges."
