Here's the undisputed, no-holds-barred truth that has long been discovered by every big-time basketball scorer:Your ability to shoot the basketball determines how many points you will score. Period. No exceptions. If you can't shoot, you can't score (duh!) Simply put, shooting is easily the most important skill you will ever develop as a player. Hands down. (There's a reason that every coach favors the shooters on their team!) When you are the best shooter on the floor at all times, a few distinct things begin to happen:
Now, obviously this is the type of player we all dream of becoming. It's why we hustle and grind for hours and hours in the gym, pouring our blood, sweat and tears into the game we love. But have you ever had the feeling that you might NOT be training your shot the right way? I know the feeling, and I've been there too. For a serious player, its agonizing. It feels as though you're "betting" your entire career on the simple "hope" that you're training the right way. We try to do what's right, but how can we know that we are doing everything we need to do to succeed? It's a BAD spot to be in, especially if you care at all about your future as a player. And the cold, hard truth is, unless you're under the private guidance of a world-class trainer, you probably aren't doing everything properly in your workouts. It's pretty common sense, but no one talks about this reality because it hurts to hear. But clearly, we aren't about beating around the bush here. You want the truth, so here it comes... If you're truly a serious action taker, make sure that you read every word of this next section: "Here's Why 97% Of All Basketball Players Are Dead Wrong In How They Train For Shooting And Scoring..." Have you ever felt as though no matter how much work you put in, you just weren't getting the results you deserved? That your teammates and opponents were getting all the recognition that was meant for you? I know what it feels like, because I've been there too. And you know what? I can almost guarantee that the way that you're training right now is killing your progress, because players like you and I are prone to make a couple distinct mistakes, which I'm going to share with you in a moment. You're just listening to what everyone else has taught you up until this point in your career. Make no mistake, I've used these bogus training techniques too, but I eventually discovered a secret that you need to know as a serious player. But first, be warned: What I'm about to tell you will basically spit in the face of every old-school self-righteous coach you've ever played for. Still, I NEED to expose this cold, hard truth once and for all: The basketball training game is rapidly changing. Gone are the days of spending hours and hours in the gym, hoisting up shot after exhausting shot, running endless suicides and working yourself to the bone like every old coach thinks you should. There is no "secret number" of shots you need to shoot per day, there is no amount of raw hours that you need to put in, and there is certainly no miracle shooting device that will turn you into Reggie Miller. Although dedicated players like you and I always want to work smart, the truth is, these foolish training techniques are outdated, ineffective, and only train ONE single aspect of our shooting ability (there are 5, and I'm about to teach you each of them in a second). On top of this, these techniques are downright dangerous. Yes, I said dangerous: "Training the same way you're training right now cost me a hip surgery that nearly ended my career." This injury (a torn labrum from 9 oclock to 12 oclock around the hip capsule, along with a severe case of femoro-acetabular impingement) had me out of competitive action for nine full months, and the doctors told me strait-up that I'd never play in a game again. Now, naturally, I didn't pay any attention to those doctors - I knew I'd make my comeback, I just didn't know how yet. It became clear pretty rapidly that the way I'd been training, and the way everyone else seemed to be training was dead wrong. There had to be a solution, and being that I was going into my last year of high school, I needed to find it - and fast. "Here's How I Discovered The Solution To All Of Our (yes, OUR) Basketball Training Problems..." During my recovery, I spent a lot of time watching the NBA Playoffs (the surgery was in April), examining exactly what tendencies the best shooters all had in common.
It really all came down to five big factors. These five factors were very clearly responsible for nearly every big-time scorer's shooting success, They are: 1.) Unlimited Shooting Range 2.) A Lightning Quick Release 3.) A Flawless Shooting Stroke & Rock-Solid Mechanics 4.) The ability to create space and knock down shots off the dribble 5.) The ability to create space and knock down shots off of screens ...Just those 5 skills are the KEYS to total hoop domination. Just 5 things! It's so simple! Once I figured this out, it was as if a lightbulb had gone off in my head... "The Way We've Been Training All Along Has Only Been Developing ONE Out Of 5 Of These Critical Skill Factors... You haven't. I thought I was training them back then too... Life is too short to have regrets, but I REALLY wish I hadn't made this mistake.
