Here's what the traditional book publishing industry won't tell you before you sign-up... You'll have to give away half of your book's value right up-front by being forced to discount the cover price by as much as 60% (Hard to believe isn't it!). You'll make very little money -- as little as 3% of the cover price through a standard publisher, up to a maximum of 35% of cover price if you self-publish the traditional way. (So then, what's the point?). You'll have to wait a full 3 to 4 months to get paid for a book sale after it has been made. (Really -- I'm not kidding here!). You'll be forced to issue 100% rebates to booksellers who return your books after many months, because they didn't make an effort to sell them. (Almost beyond belief, isn't it!. You'll have 25% or more of your income withheld from you (3 to 4 months after that income was earned) as a contingency to cover eventual returns. (So, now they add insult to injury). You'll get stuck in a long and drawn-out industry time-cycle of 18 to 24 months from the time your book is ready until the time it's on store shelves. (That is, if you're lucky enough to get accepted). Trust me; I learned all of this the hard way. In fact, it was so difficult to believe that a business model could be so archaic and flawed that I even went back and tried it a second time in the hope that I had somehow missed the benefits the first time around. No such luck. It is simply a terribly poor business model that offers the small time author/publisher NOTHING whatsoever that is beneficial. Bottom Line: Based on my experiences with the conventional publishing model, my advice to you is this - DON'T USE IT! Don't even think about it. The Good News Is... There IS A Better Way! Yes, there IS a better way and I've found it. It's called the "Online Publishing Model". In a nutshell; the Online Publishing Model (OPM) allows you to write, self-publish and market your own books/ebooks through online channels with a minimum of interaction with the traditional publishing infrastructure. In case you're wondering, the three main distribution channels for your book/ebook under the Online Publishing Model will be: Dedicated Sales-Mini-Site - Your very own Web site, designed for the sole purpose of selling your book/ebook. Digital Download Distributors - Digital fulfillment service companies that will make your book/ebook available to buyers as a digital download through major booksellers such as amazon.com and others. Print-On-Demand Distributors - Print-on-demand fulfillment services that will make your book/ebook available to customers as a printed book, on a copy-by-copy basis, through their entire international bookselling network. Note: For the Online Publishing Model. I regard a "book" and an "ebook" as being essentially the same thing. They use identical source documents with three (3) different methods of delivery as follows: 1) downloadable digital ebook, 2) digital download file, and 3) print-on-demand paper book. POD Publishing Warning... Even if you decide that this Kit is not for you at this time, no problem. However, as a fellow author and self-publisher, I feel I owe it to you to give you a "heads-up" and warn you about a certain situation that could cause you a lot of unnecessary disappointment and expense if being unaware of it causes you to make the wrong choices. There continues to be massive confusion and misinformation online about the whole subject of POD publishers and POD printers. Even many of the so-called and/or self-appointed experts who make online posts about this subject on the various publishing forums are either confused themselves or are deliberately misleading people. Most of that confusion is centered on the two widely misused, often confused, and frequently misunderstood terms, "POD publishing" and "POD printing"; around which there continues to be significant misinformation. Here's the truth on this whole "POD publishing" issue: Print-on-demand (POD) is simply a "printing technology"; a relatively new one that allows anyone who uses it to print books in small quantities (even one copy at a time) at reasonable per-unit costs. This degree of cost-efficiency was impossible before POD printing technology became widely available a few years ago. Since then, many different types of printers and publishers have implemented POD printing technology; some quite effectively and legitimately; while some others, not so much. Unfortunately, what has happened in recent years as POD printing technology has become more accessible and widespread, is that the dreaded "vanity publishers" have quickly adopted that technology and have now in effect co-opted the term POD and started referring to themselves as "POD publishers". This has caused massive confusion, since every company that uses POD printing technology to do low-volume book printing is now being grouped with the vanity publishers as "POD publishers". This makes it very difficult to tell the difference between the traditional vanity publishers and legitimate POD printers. What you are really in need of is a true "POD printer" with it own fulfillment service and an extensive distribution network. In reality, there are only a few genuine "POD printers" with full distribution capabilities, while many of the "vanity publishers" pretend to possess these.
