Dear Fellow Music Lover, My name is Vic Dorfman and I'm here to help make your opera singing dreams become reality by teaching you how to sing opera! Unlike most people, YOU recognize the incredible beauty of operatic singing and the profound, thrilling sound of an opera singer's voice. But You Also Probably Believe Some Of The Big Myths About Opera Singing, Like:
These Make Me Shake My Head Because They Are Simply Not True! How do I know that? Because many of the most celebrated opera stars in history were:
Listen below to Giuseppe Giacomini, one of the greatest tenors of all time, speak for a few seconds, then listen to him sing.
The truth is that everybody is born with the same vocal equipment just like everybody is born with a pair of legs. And every single one of us can run! Opera singing is the same way! You have a voice box just like everybody else and you can absolutely learn to sing with an operatic voice so gorgeous that it will simply shock you (and those around you!) once you begin learning how. Look at an email Lindsay H. sent me a few months ago:
I've Been Through Everything You Might Be Feeling, From Skepticism ("I Can't POSSIBLY Learn To Sing Opera!") To Frustration And Eventually, Amazement Because when I auditioned for the Classical Singing program at my university, I sang SO badly and SO out of tune that they told me to "take some lessons" and come back in a year! Ouch . . . Music and singing were my LIFE and two professional musicians from a top university music program basically told me I stink SO much that I'll need another year before I can even come back to audition again. If you're chuckling right now, I don't blame you, it's pretty funny looking back on it! ;-)
But at the time, it was FAR from funny . . . I was CRUSHED and started to think that maybe I really have no talent (myth) and that I'm just not "born with it" (myth) and maybe I should change hobbies to computers, like my brother and my dad. So I asked my dad to show me some computer stuff and after the most BORING hour of my life in front of a computer screen I decided to go find a voice teacher and take some lessons! I figured if I fail doing something I love it's better than succeeding at something that bores me to death everyday! So I went to singing lessons weekly and I practiced my singing every day. A year later I emailed the university and set up another audition. As I walked into the chorus room for my audition, I was so nervous that my legs trembled under me as I sang my three audition songs. It's no wonder I was intimidated . . . the singing teachers sat in a table in front of me with emotionless expressions on their faces scribbling notes every time I made a mistake! As I sang my last song, a famous Russian romance that I really love, I suddenly stopped caring about my 3 judges and somehow connected emotionally with the song. As I let go, my voice got brighter and warmer and my true expressiveness came out. One of the teachers who, like me, was also from Eastern Europe, liked my choice of song and felt my passion for singing if even for a brief moment. So did I get in? . . . They decided to let me into the Classical Singing program on a probational basis. I couldn't believe it . . . I was actually going to learn how to sing opera from a professional opera singer! There was a lot of hard work ahead of me but I was ready to do anything to make it happen.
A few years later I was singing with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Chorus in Puccini's opera "Turandot", had a principal role in the COOS production of Menotti's "Amahl And The Night Visitors", was the Assistant Director of Music at a large church and had over 20 students in my voice studio. I knew I was onto something that most people don't know. How else could I explain my rapid progress and the outstanding progress of my students? I knew I'd found a hidden system to learn how to sing opera quickly and correctly and created the Sing Opera Now program to pass that knowledge on.

To Your Singing Success And Boundless Potential,* * * * * * * * * * Just about any human being can learn how to sing opera. Now this next part is vital to learning how to sing opera: If you yawn while keeping your hand on your throat, you'll feel your larynx sink gently down. Now keep it there. Try singing something but DO NOT allow it to rise. This might feel awkward for you and sound unusual and that's because you're unaccustomed to it! But this is the most important thing to begin developing an operatic voice. I bet you can already hear the difference in the way you sound, can't you? The next thing you need to learn how to sing opera is how to "place" your sound. Start out humming at a pretty loud volume in the middle of your vocal range. Do you feel that BUZZ in the front part of your face? Well, THAT, my friend, is your mask! See? I told you anybody can learn how to sing opera! Now hum again and this time slowly open your mouth into an "eeh" vowel WHILE KEEPING THE SOUND IN THE MASK. Keep practicing this as much as possible and make sure that no matter how low or high you're singing, that: 1. The larynx is low These are two of the most important concepts of classical singing and any opera singing teacher WILL teach you these same basics and drill them into your head when you're learning how to sing opera. If you can learn to do this at all times, you'll notice that your voice gets louder, more resonant, clearer and more powerful. Remember, you're training your body to do something, so practice is important to build muscle memory. The cool thing is that you can do this anytime: in the car, in the shower, whenever! So keep practicing keeping the larynx low at all times, even on your highest notes, and you will have made the first step towards developing true operatic technique. So you can see that learning how to sing opera is just like any other skill and requires good instruction such as that found in the Sing Opera Now video lesson, hard work and patience.
