Before telling you what «Management of The Future» is about, let me introduce myself. My name is Roland Carrière, someone who has been involved in management all life-long. During the last 45 years, I have had the privilege and opportunity to manage a variety of projects and teams for 30 different organizations and to be a member of two Boards of Directors: CGI Group, 1979-1982 and Roland Carrière and Associates Inc, 1982-1994 and 2000-2009. WHY «MANAGEMENT OF THE FUTURE»?

This work is an attempt to resolve a world-wide problem: MANAGEMENT. We still manage our World as if it were exclusively a World of «Things». Within a World of «Things», there is no need to respect Life and Humans are often treated by their own organization as throwaway resources. The result is dramatic. Nearly 25% of the people on earth are starving and the whole world keeps moving from one crisis to another. Most Human organizations are managed as «Things» which means that their members are managed as any other physical resources. And, the members of the organizations react as if they were isolated dead «Things» having absolutely no responsibility towards other people. The members of the organizations work for themselves and their leaders periodically run out with benefits before delivering any result (free stock options, multi-million dollars pension funds, etc…). Some Companies' most talented leaders invent and sell financial products that have nothing to do with the real economy and they also run out with huge profits before the layman ever knew they existed. We then enter into a new crisis. Our governments "save us" by printing money that we reimburse over the next decade and we courageously head on to the next crisis. Unfortunately, this situation will keep going on for ever unless we quickly adapt our thinking patterns to the living World and adopt a management approach that fully respects Life. This is why MANAGEMENT OF THE FUTURE proposes a totally new vision of Human organization: the vision of a living organization where each member becomes one of its cells.

HOW DID «MANAGEMENT OF THE FUTURE»
BECOME A REALITY

Like any other project, this book has started as a dream. It took me over twenty years of reflections and research before it could become a reality. The initial dream consisted in identifying the scientific discoveries which could have an impact on management and see how these discoveries could affect our day-to-day management practices. The realization of this dream required the reading of over a hundred books in Management, Social Sciences, Economy, Quantum Physics, Chaos Theory, Self-organizing Systems, Microbiology, Philosophy, Psychology and several other subjects that I believed had an effect on our thinking pattern and could play a key role in the management of our organizations.

WHAT IS «MANAGEMENT OF THE FUTURE»?

Management of the Future introduces a new management concept. According to this new vision of management, organizations are alive and the invisible forces and processes that govern them are the same as those governing their own cells - the humans. Humans mind’s main forces - information, perception, meaning, participation, imagination, emotional feedback, expectation and adaptation - are the base for the management of organizations and the humans’ psychosomatic network becomes their ideal management model. However, the domestication of this new management model may extend over several decades. In fact, the preparation of this book has already required over twenty years of thoughts, reflections and research. And, its evolution will be ensured by all those people of the next generations who will continue to invest in the humanization of organizations.
