As I was heading home from the office I received the call that would change my life forever.

It was Thursday the 16th of June, 2001, a beautiful day outside, and I had the top down... looking forward to the ride home.

These next few minutes... they will be burned into my mind for the rest of my life.  Just as I was about to pull onto highway 404, my cell phone rang.

"Phil", he said.  "Yes, this is Phil, who's this?"  "I'm the guy that's going to make your wife a widow Phil.  You're a dead man."... click.

Freaked out, I tried calling the number back, but I just got a busy signal.  My mind was racing a thousand miles a minute and I had to pull over to collect myself.

Whoever just called me had threatened my life.

And when I arrived back in California I wondered what I would do with my life. I had 3 years of doing nothing but surfing and 'bumming' around, and felt like I needed something more in my life.

Going back to the firm or practicing that kind of law again obviously had little appeal after that threat on my life a few years back.

So I went online and began my search for a new passion -- something I could do to generate money and that I would truly enjoy. At first, here's what I found...

Slick and glossy web sites boasted riches overnight.  And would be entrepreneurs were grabbing onto anything and everything that promised them instant cash gratification.

Coming from my background, due diligence is critical in determining my professional course of action, and I dug in neck deep.

I spent over $20,000 dollars on digital downloadable ebooks, 'step by step' plans, audio interviews, seminars, and self proclaimed 'turnkey' businesses in a box. And the only thing that any of them were good for was a deduction on my tax returns.
